Watercolour Music has a magical ‘first’ for the latest gig in their regular House Concert series at the Lochaber recording studios. On Sunday May 27th, award-winning musicians Luke Daniel and Ryan Young will take to the stage in the company of possibly the most unusual instrument ever to be played at the studio.
‘Lord of The Rings’ soundtrack star and BBC Folk Award winner Luke is a master of many instruments including guitar, piano, banjo and melodeon. And the new addition to his musical array is the Polyphon, a mechanical disc-playing music box made in Germany in the 19th Century. Its unique, beautiful tinkling sound adds some atmospheric magic to his folk-rooted original songs and tunes, and Luke is the first person to write new music for the machine in over 130 years.
Luke is joined on stage by Ryan Young, one of a new generation of fiddle players making their mark on the vibrant Scottish trad music scene. Ryan is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a two-time finalist in both BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio Scotland music awards. He was named 'Up and Coming Artist’ in the 2016 Scots Trad Music Awards, and his debut album showcases his love of old Scottish and Irish traditions as well as his own compositions.
As ever, please do book ahead for us (pay on the day, just reserve your places via the contacts below) and we look forward to seeing you on the 8th April!
